Coerced Business Debts: Uncovering hidden harms from economic abuse

A pioneering national study sheds light on the hidden toll of coerced business debt, revealing how business structures are weaponised to perpetrate financial abuse, resulting in long-term economic hardship. This research, led by Associate Professor Vivien Chen from Monash Business School and Jasmine Opdam, Senior Policy and Advocacy Officer at Redfern Legal Centre’s Financial Abuse Service NSW in collaboration with the Economic Abuse Reference Group, shares insights from frontline practitioners on financial harms, service gaps and systemic barriers to justice.
